noise-engineering-lapsus-os
Noise Engineering Lapsus Os Attenuverter and Offset Module

The Noise Engineering Lapsus Os is a four-channel attenuator, attenuverter and offset generator in 10HP, laid out around faders. It is designed as a central performance panel for a modular case: patch CV destinations from across the system to one place and play them side by side by hand, or use it to scale, invert and offset modulation.

Four fader channels: each with an LED that shows the CV passing through. In bipolar mode the LED goes dark at zero, so the null point is easy to find.

Uni/Bi switch per channel: Uni attenuates the input. Bi turns the upper half of the fader into an attenuator and the lower half into an inverting attenuator.

Two inputs per channel: an offset input (+) and an attenuate/attenuvert input (x).

Two identical outputs per channel for sending one fader move to two destinations.

Manual offset source: with no inputs patched, each fader outputs a hand-set voltage, 0 to 5 V or ±5 V.

Reversible mounting: rear switches flip the fader direction channel by channel, so the module works either way up.

In practice the Lapsus Os covers both live play and patch utility work. Unpatched, the faders act as manual controllers for CV inputs on other modules. Patch an LFO into a channel in bipolar mode and the fader sets its depth and polarity while you play. Routing the decay inputs of four voices through it gives you one spot to shape envelopes across a whole case.

The design grew out of that performance focus. Early versions had four outputs per channel, which Noise Engineering swapped for inputs. After user feedback, the Uni/Bi switches moved to the middle of the panel. The name comes from Latin, roughly "sliding bones", which Noise Engineering renders as "Dancing Corpse".
