The Klavis Flexshaper is a 6HP Eurorack voltage mapper and waveshaper that works on control voltages and audio alike. It takes the idea of the Tracking Generator from Oberheim Matrix synths and adds full audio-rate operation, plus CV control over every shaping point. It suits modular users who want to remap modulation or reshape oscillator waveforms.
-
Five mapping points: Ceiling, Mid-up, Halfway, Mid-down and Floor divide the input into four ranges, and each point sets where that part of the signal lands on the output
-
Full CV control: each point has its own knob and CV input. The CV adds to the knob position, so the knobs work as offsets
-
DC to 20kHz processing: it handles slow envelopes and LFOs as well as audio-rate signals
-
Input gain with clean clipping: turning the gain past nominal level gives flat, clean clipping, which you can use as a limiter or as part of the shape. LEDs show nominal level and clipping
-
Unipolar and bipolar outputs: both are active at once and carry the same signal at different offset and gain
-
Selectable input mode: a button with LED switches the input between unipolar and bipolar
A conventional wavefolder folds a signal at a single threshold. The Flexshaper lets you place several points where the signal is folded, expanded, compressed, clipped or inverted, across the whole signal or only part of it. Black dots on the panel mark the default knob positions. With every knob on its dot, the signal passes through unchanged, which gives you a neutral place to start before you bend the transfer curve.
The manual lists a wide set of uses: turning a triangle into a pseudo-sine, doubling, tripling or quadrupling the frequency of saw and triangle waves, half-wave rectification, and doubling a decaying envelope for percussive sounds. On the CV side it can derive a second melodic line from a V/Oct sequence (a quantizer after it keeps the result in key), or adjust how a keyboard responds through velocity, aftertouch or mod wheel. Sloped and complex waveforms such as triangle, saw, sine, wavetable and FM sources respond best. Squares and gates give limited results.
Settings are restored after a power cycle, and you update the firmware by playing an audio file into the input. The 21 mm depth makes it suitable for skiffs. Silver and black panel versions are available.
