The Befaco CV Thing is a 6 HP Eurorack module that converts control voltages into MIDI. This is the DIY kit version, which you build yourself. It is aimed at modular users who want their system to drive external MIDI hardware over TRS, or a DAW and soft synths over class-compliant USB. It is based on Befaco's VCMC and designed for compact performance rigs.
-
Eight mappable CV inputs: any input can send CC, Note, Program Change, Clock, Start/Stop or NRPN messages
-
USB and TRS MIDI: class-compliant USB MIDI plus TRS MIDI, with a TRS to DIN5 Type A adaptor included
-
OLED display and master encoder: shows each input's state, CV level and MIDI routing
-
Flexible setup: settings are stored in internal memory, can be saved and loaded via SysEx, and can be edited in Befaco's web editor
-
Open design: firmware on GitHub, plus a published schematic, BOM and interactive build guide
Compared with the VCMC, the CV Thing drops the sliders and buttons and keeps the core job: turning modular signals into MIDI. Typical uses include sending V/Oct as MIDI notes, clocking external gear from your rack, modulating synth parameters with CC, and switching patches with Program Change.
The build includes mounting an OLED screen with fragile glass on a cut-down 14-pin socket. Befaco recommends that even experienced builders read every step of the assembly guide. The panel is heat-treated aluminium.
