The Befaco VCMC (Voltage Controlled MIDI Controller) is a 20 HP Eurorack module that turns control voltages and gates into MIDI. It is supplied here as a DIY kit you build yourself. With eight faders, eight buttons and dedicated CV and gate inputs, it connects a modular system to hardware synths, DAWs and other MIDI software. It suits builders who want a fully configurable modular-to-MIDI interface.
-
Eight faders and eight buttons, each usable as a manual control or driven by its own CV or gate input
-
10 CV inputs and 8 gate inputs for automating MIDI from the rest of the rack
-
Flexible mapping: assign any control to CC, notes, program change, clock, start/stop/song position or NRPN messages
-
USB and DIN-5 MIDI, with USB working as a class-compliant device
-
OLED screen for editing on the module, plus an online web editor
-
Memory and SysEx: settings are stored internally and can be backed up or transferred via SysEx
Every control is configured individually. A fader can send a CC while its CV input moves the same value, and a gate input can fire notes or transport messages. This makes the VCMC useful for sequencing external gear from Eurorack, driving software parameters from modulation sources, or syncing a DAW to your modular clock.
The DIY version can also be built or modified to run from USB power as a standalone controller, which involves swapping two components. Befaco offers a separate standalone mod kit and a 3D-printed case for this, and the case files are free to download. The project is well documented: the firmware is on GitHub, and Befaco publishes a schematic, a parts list, an assembly manual and an interactive build guide. Befaco also sells the VCMC as a separate, fully assembled module.
