The Befaco 7U Case DIY Kit is the self-build version of Befaco's 7U Eurorack case. It is a slim, powered 104HP case with two 3U rows and a 1U row in Intellijel format. It suits modular users who want one sturdy case that works at home, on stage or in the studio, and who are comfortable with a medium-level DIY build.
-
7U layout: 2x 3U 104HP rows plus a 1U 104HP row, with space for up to 36 modules
-
Trolley Bus power: rated +12V 5000mA, -12V 2500mA and +5V 4000mA, fed by an included 135W power brick
-
Rear-panel I/O: six 6.3mm jacks (balanced or unbalanced), MIDI In/Out/Thru, USB-B device and USB-A charging ports, all in Intellijel format
-
Unibody frame: black anodised aluminium with threaded M3 strip rails
-
Patch-friendly cover: clear PET-G lid that closes over patched cables, held shut with an included velcro belt
-
Mounting and security: VESA 100 threads, a Kensington lock connector and a tamper-resistant power button
The rear connectors follow the Intellijel 1U standard, so Intellijel-format 1U modules can use the jack, MIDI and USB I/O. All of these connections are also available from an internal I/O board. The 1U row does not have to stay in one place: two screws let you move it to the centre of the case.
Module depth is 53mm on the power supply side and 70mm across the rest of the case. Without the cover the case measures 53.5 x 31 x 8cm and weighs 2.6kg, which keeps it practical to carry. The VESA threads mean it can also sit on a monitor arm or stand next to a desk.
Befaco rates the build as medium difficulty. The work includes soldering the Trolley Bus power supply and the I/O board (IDC, Molex and JST connectors, resistors, LEDs and regulators), fitting the rear-panel hardware and power switch, and then assembling the case, rails and feet.
