Befaco Hexmix – DIY Kit

The Befaco Hexmix DIY Kit is the self-build version of Befaco's six-channel Eurorack performance mixer. Its layout and EQ voicing draw on classic DJ mixers, and it is aimed at performers who mix live in the rack and at builders comfortable with an advanced through-hole project.

• Six channels, each with a three-band EQ, mute, pan and volume
• Steep 12 dB channel EQs for hard, DJ-style frequency cuts
• Gentler 6 dB master EQ for shaping the overall mix
• Vactrol-based momentary mutes that fade out briefly instead of clicking
• Rear line/synth level switch for the output
• Channel inputs normalled to a VCA expander connector on the back, so the Hexmix VCA can feed the channels directly; patching an input breaks the connection

Befaco intends the system to be laid out across 6U rather than a single row. Each channel's controls then run top to bottom, much like a tabletop mixer. The channel inputs sit on the left side of the panel.

The optional Hexpander expander, sold separately, adds three aux sends per channel, pre-fader listen, individual channel outputs and a balanced line-level output. With the balanced output you can feed a PA and still return the master at synth level into the modular.

The kit includes the parts needed for a working module, a power cable and four Befaco Knurlies M3 rack screws. It uses hex nuts rather than the round nuts on Befaco's assembled modules, which makes building easier. Exploding Shed rates the build as advanced.
