This DIY kit builds the Befaco Hexpander, a Eurorack expander for the Befaco Hexmix 6-channel mixer. It is for Hexmix owners who want a full performance mixer in the rack and are comfortable assembling a kit. The Hexpander does nothing without a Hexmix.
-
Three aux sends with stereo returns, with aux controls on every channel
-
Line or modular level selectable on the return inputs
-
PFL monitoring on every channel, plus a master section with a headphone amp
-
Six post-EQ channel outputs, one for each Hexmix channel, plus pre- and post-fader/EQ outputs
-
Balanced line outputs, with left and right master outputs on 1/4" jacks
The Hexpander mounts in the row directly above the Hexmix. Together the two modules span 6U, so each channel's controls line up vertically like a channel strip on a tabletop mixer. The aux sends and returns let you build send effects into a modular mix, such as a shared reverb or delay. The per-channel outputs let you send individual voices to an audio interface or external processing.
The PFL system and headphone amp let you check a channel in headphones before bringing it into the main mix. This is useful for cueing parts in live sets and for building separate monitor mixes. The balanced line outputs suit a direct connection to a desk, interface or PA.
The kit includes all the parts for a finished module, a power cable, a Hexmix VCA connector cable and four Befaco Knurlies M3 rack screws. The Hexmix and Hexmix VCA modules are sold separately. Befaco publishes assembly instructions, a user manual, a schematic, a BOM and an interactive build guide for the Hexpander.
