The Befaco Hexpander is an expander for the Befaco Hexmix six-channel mixer. It adds aux sends with stereo returns, per-channel direct outputs, a PFL cue system and a balanced master output. This version is the semi-soldered DIY kit: the board components come presoldered and you assemble the mechanical parts. The Hexpander needs a Hexmix to work.
-
Three aux sends with individual send controls on every channel and stereo returns
-
Pre- and post-fader outputs on each aux bus, usable at the same time, so a muted channel can keep feeding an effect
-
Switchable return level: modular or line level, so guitar pedals and line-level effects can be used as well as Eurorack processing
-
PFL monitoring with a cue switch per channel, a PFL/master crossfade knob, headphone volume and an LED level meter
-
Direct output per channel after the fader and EQ, plus a balanced master output at professional line level
Mounted directly above the Hexmix, the pair takes up 6U, and each channel's controls line up in a vertical strip like a tabletop mixer. Befaco modelled the system on classic DJ mixers and designed it for live playing. With three effect loops, cueing and a balanced output to the PA, a modular rig can be mixed like a club setup.
The Hexpander draws its power and exchanges signals with the Hexmix through one ribbon connector on the back. The cable comes with the module, and Befaco says to use only that cable. The front panel is heat-treated aluminium.
Although the circuit boards come presoldered, Befaco still classes this as a DIY kit. Follow the assembly documentation carefully. A fully through-hole kit and an assembled module are sold as separate products.
