The Befaco IROI is an 18 HP stereo effects module for Eurorack, supplied here as a DIY kit. It takes the effects section of Befaco's Oneiroi, without that module's oscillators and looper, and gives it a new mapping structure for processing external sound sources. It suits modular users and DIY builders who want to turn incoming signals into evolving ambient and atmospheric stereo textures.
-
Stereo processing chain: multimode filter, VCA, 3-band resonator, 2-tap echo and reverb.
-
Movable filter/VCA block: the filter and VCA work as one unit that can be placed anywhere in the chain.
-
Multimode filter: low-pass, band-pass, high-pass and comb responses, followed by a fast digital VCA.
-
Extensive CV control: CV inputs with attenuators on most parameters, plus a sync input for external synchronisation.
-
Built-in self-modulation: several modulation types with configurable routing, level and speed.
-
Randomiser: four targets with undo and redo.
Each stage has its own focused controls. The resonator has tune and dissonance (feedback) controls, the echo has time and density, and the reverb uses a single macro that sets size, filtering and direction together. Because the filter is followed by a VCA, you can also use the IROI as the back end of a complete voice by patching in an oscillator and your own envelopes.
Modulation is assigned through a mapping system. Hold MAP and turn a knob to set how much randomisation, internal modulation and external CV reach that parameter. Combined with the randomiser and its undo and redo, this lets you explore variations quickly and step back to a setting you liked.
The stereo input uses two mono jacks, so you can feed it either a mono source or a stereo pair. The front panel is matt anodised aluminium, and the module was designed by Befaco in Barcelona.
