The Befaco Kickall DIY Kit contains everything needed to build Kickall, a 6HP analog Eurorack voice designed around the classic kick drum patch. It suits modular users who build their own modules and want a dedicated kick voice that can be tuned and sequenced. Kickall also covers other percussion sounds and basslines.
-
Complete kit: PCB, components, aluminium front panel, power cable and a set of Befaco Knurlies M3 rack screws
-
V/Oct oscillator: sine VCO with accurate tracking and a Tune knob spanning roughly A0 to B2
-
Waveshaper: voltage-controlled morph from sine to square
-
Two envelopes: a pitch envelope with Time and Bend controls, and a volume envelope with manual and CV control over decay
-
Two VCAs: the second VCA sits at the end of the path with its own CV input for overall level or basic AM
-
Through-hole build: through-hole parts only, with a black aluminium panel
The signal path follows the familiar kick recipe in one module. A sine oscillator feeds the sine-to-square waveshaper and then two VCAs. One envelope opens the first VCA and the other sweeps the oscillator pitch. Both envelopes fire together, from the panel Trigg button or the trigger input.
The pitch envelope is where most of the character comes from. Time sets how quickly the sweep decays and Bend sets how far it travels. Short, deep settings give snappy, clicky hits, and longer, gentler ones give sub-heavy booms. Both controls are manual only. The volume envelope's decay can be set with its slider or modulated through its CV input, which adds movement to a sequenced pattern. The Shape CV input lets the tone move between a pure sine and a harder, square-like timbre.
With a sequencer patched into the V/Oct Tune input, Kickall plays tuned kicks that follow a track's key, or works as a simple bass voice. The final VCA passes the signal at full level when nothing is patched. Sending CV or audio to its input gives you level control or amplitude modulation. Because this is a kit, you calibrate the 1V/oct tracking yourself after assembly, following the procedure in Befaco's manual.
