Befaco Lich is a 12 HP programmable DSP module for Eurorack, developed with Rebel Technology and built on the OWL platform. It runs patches written in Pure Data, Max Gen or Faust, so one module can work as a reverb, a delay, an oscillator or a MIDI interface. It suits patchers who write their own DSP code as well as those who prefer to load ready-made patches from an online library.
-
Stereo audio: stereo inputs and outputs at 48 kHz / 24-bit
-
Four CV-controlled parameters: pots A to D, each summed with its own attenuated CV input
-
Extra hardware over the original OWL module: two CV outputs, a gate output and two gate inputs with push buttons
-
Patch display: LED segment display and push encoder for selecting and loading patches
-
USB MIDI host and device: connect MIDI controllers directly, or link to a computer to load patches and exchange MIDI
Lich comes with four patches loaded. Silky Reverb is a multi-delay-line reverb with a feedback matrix that goes from clean ambience to wide textures. Ping Pong Lich is a tap-tempo delay with tempo division and multiplication and synced sine and ramp LFOs on the CV outputs, and Gate 1 can set the tempo. Harmonic Lich is a harmonic oscillator with a V/oct input, root and detune controls, a harmonic centre and high/low attenuation. With a MIDI controller you can set the levels of the first eight harmonics. MIDI Modular converts MIDI to CV and CV to MIDI, with sine FM available on the pitch outputs.
New patches can be written in Pure Data Vanilla, C++, Faust or Max Gen, or taken from Rebel Technology's patch library and uploaded over USB from a MIDI-capable browser such as Chrome. A patch can be loaded into RAM for testing, or stored to a memory slot. Many library patches were written for other OWL devices, so they may not use Lich's CV and gate outputs, and some may not run fully on Lich. The front panel is heat-treated aluminium, and the module is designed and assembled in Barcelona.
