Overview

The Befaco MIDI Thing V2 DIY Kit is the self-build version of Befaco's 6HP Eurorack MIDI interface, which the company describes as a major upgrade of the original MIDI Thing. It is for modular users who need to move MIDI into or out of their system and are comfortable assembling a kit. Befaco rates the build as medium difficulty, so some soldering experience helps.

Built-in screen to make setup easier
12 assignable ports configured to suit the patch
TRS MIDI connection
USB Host and USB Device support, plus a MIDI merge output
Web-based configuration tool and a matching bridge for VCV Rack

At 6HP wide and 30mm deep including the power connector, it fits small and shallow cases. The combination of USB Host and Device lets it sit between computers, USB controllers and the rest of a modular rig, while the VCV Rack bridge links the hardware with Befaco's software environment.
