The Befaco Noise Plethora is a 14HP Eurorack noise module that Befaco describes as multitimbral. It has three sound generators, and each one runs into its own analog multimode filter. It is aimed at modular players who want noise, textures, rumbles and harsh tones they can shape by hand and with CV, rather than a single static white noise source.
-
Two algorithmic noise channels: channels A and B each select from dozens of digital noise algorithms arranged in banks.
-
CV-controllable parameters: every algorithm exposes two parameters that can be modulated with control voltage.
-
Wide sonic range: textures, rumbles, lo-fi blips, spikes, oscillator clusters and harsh noise, switchable while playing.
-
Analog filtering: an OTA-based multimode filter on each channel.
-
Channel C: separate outputs for gritty noise, white noise and a filtered version of either.
-
Open source: firmware and source code are published by Befaco on GitHub.
The layout combines digital sound generation with analog filtering. On channels A and B you pick an algorithm and then move through its two parameters, which can turn a texture into something rhythmic or tonal. Because the algorithms can be changed during a performance, the module works well for evolving drones, glitchy percussion layers and noise beds that change over the course of a patch.
Channel C is a more traditional noise source. Its separate white, gritty and filtered outputs make it useful for modulation sources, hi-hat and snare voices, or general noise duties alongside the two algorithmic channels. The front panel is heat-treated aluminium, and the module is designed and assembled in Barcelona. This is the assembled version.
