Percall is Befaco's percussion module for Eurorack, sold here as a DIY kit. It takes four separate sound sources, such as oscillators, noise or other signals, and shapes them into percussive hits with four VCAs, each driven by its own decay envelope. A built-in mixer lets you run a small percussion submix inside the rack. The kit is aimed at Eurorack users who build their own modules.
-
Four channels, each with an audio input, a trigger input, a decay fader and a volume pot that sets the level after the VCA
-
CV control over decay, so envelope length can be modulated as well as set by hand
-
Individual envelope outputs for using each envelope elsewhere in the patch
-
Choke controls linking channels 1/2 and 3/4, for open and closed hi-hats or ducking effects
-
Strength input that adds dynamics across all four channels
-
Normalised Mix output, with audio input 1 normalled to input 2 and input 3 to input 4
Each trigger opens its channel's VCA and the envelope sets how long the sound rings out. Since the envelopes are also available as outputs, one can be patched back to an oscillator's pitch input to get the falling pitch of a kick drum. The choke pairing covers the classic hi-hat setup and also works as a side-chain style effect, for example a bass line that drops out when the kick plays. The input normalling means one source can feed two channels, so you can get two different articulations from a single oscillator or noise source.
The kit contains every part needed to build the module, along with a power cable, four Befaco Knurlies M3 rack screws and Bananuts. Befaco provides an assembly manual, user manual, schematic, BOM and an interactive build guide. The front panel is heat-treated aluminium. A built version of Percall is also available.
