The GooRoo LioBox 2 (written LIOBOX² by the maker) is a hardware MIDI controller for running backing tracks and show playback from a computer. It is built for performers who launch songs from Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, QLab, Reaper, Bitwig, Cubase or other MIDI-compatible software and want to manage setlists and transport from the stage without looking at a laptop.
-
Song launching from pads: track names appear on the 3.5-inch touch display, and setlists can be built and edited on the unit.
-
Automatic session reading: in supported DAWs it picks up markers and song positions from the open session without setup and follows changes in real time.
-
Dual-computer redundancy: two USB ports connect a main and a backup computer, with live connection status for each shown on screen.
-
MIDI IN and OUT on mini jack: trigger pad functions from a pedalboard or drum pad, and send Program Change, CC and note messages to stage instruments.
-
Assignable pads in banks: each pad gets its own function, name and colour, across up to 4 banks for up to 48 controls.
Transport is handled natively, with play, pause, resume, stop, rewind, forward and play again kept in sync with the software. The display shows the current and next track along with each song's BPM, key, duration and elapsed time, which you add to the track name in the DAW. Marker-based functions include automated actions on specific markers, Autostop and Auto Next to end a song and cue the following one, and quantized loops of any bar length created on the fly. The unit is compact, smaller than an iPad Mini according to GooRoo, and the pads have a tactile click.
In the box are two 1.2 m USB 2.0 A/B cables, two USB A-to-C adapters, a cotton drawstring pouch, a cleaning cloth and four non-slip silicone pads.
