Intellijel Scales is an 8HP Eurorack module that combines a two-channel note quantizer with a built-in step sequencer. It turns any incoming voltage into notes of a chosen scale for 1V/oct oscillators. It suits modular players who want to turn LFOs, random voltages or unquantized CV sequences into melodies, arpeggios, harmonies and counterpoint.
-
Two outputs from one input: OUT A and OUT B can produce harmony intervals within the scale from a single pitch source.
-
Flexible SHIFT input: transposes the quantized outputs, changes scale or root, or acts as a second pitch input in DUAL mode.
-
128-step sequencer: an SH-101-style sequencer with 35 pattern slots plays from OUT B while OUT A keeps quantizing.
-
One-octave keyboard: LED buttons select scale notes in real time and show quantization as it happens.
-
35 memory slots: five banks of seven, preloaded with factory scales including the modes of Major, Melodic Minor and Harmonic Minor, plus special and world scales.
-
Trigger handling: TRIG IN switches between continuous and sample-and-hold quantizing, and TRIG OUT passes gates through or fires on note changes.
When a trigger or gate is patched into TRIG IN, the pitch input is quantized only when a trigger arrives. With nothing patched, the module quantizes continuously. Adjustable trigger delay and input filtering help against jitter and glitches. An ARM processor keeps latency low, and a high-resolution DAC handles pitch accuracy. Inputs and outputs work across -10V to +10V at 1V/oct.
In SEQ mode, TRIG IN becomes the clock and SHIFT IN resets the sequence, and the sequencer can sync to note changes on OUT A. A LEARN function captures the notes of an external sequence or input to build a scale. A ROOT function changes the root with or without shifting the scale. There is also a tuning mode for setting up connected VCOs. Firmware updates are installed through a rear USB port.
